Today, two-time NBA MVP and three-time NBA champion Stephen Curry announced the launch of The Underrated Tour, a basketball showcase developed specifically for three-star high school basketball prospects looking for a platform to prove themselves to college coaches and scouts. The inaugural tour will kick off in Los Angeles on January 19th and will include stops in a total of seven U.S. cities.
Curry created the tour with his own story as inspiration. “Throughout my career, I’ve been overlooked and underestimated. In high school, I was considered too small to be able to contribute to a major program at the collegiate level, but I never stopped believing in my own abilities and I knew I had a will to succeed. I remember what it was like to know I had something that the coaches and scouts didn’t seem to appreciate, and I know every year there are players in that same situation who just need a chance to prove themselves.”
With this in mind, Curry set out to develop a platform for three-star prospects to put their skills and abilities on display. His hope is that The Underrated Tour will provide additional opportunities for underrated players to impress college coaches and scouts, and hopefully open doors for them to earn scholarships and continue their basketball journeys at the collegiate level.
“This is a much-needed showcase that hasn’t existed until today,” continued Curry. “Every year, countless high school players are overlooked for any number of reasons, just as myself and several other NBA players once were. My goal with The Underrated Tour is to improve the odds for underrated players to achieve their goals, and I believe we’ll see that many of the tour’s participants will benefit from this forum each year.”
Players who want to take advantage of this opportunity can register for The Underrated Tour at www.underratedtour.com. Registration for the Los Angeles event opens on January 9th and closes on January 14th. The web site will include player profiles, updates and stories from each tour stop, and highlights and top plays from the tour.
“Exposure is vital for all high school players, but it’s most important for those that have been overlooked to date. The Underrated Tour provides a valuable opportunity for players that still have something to prove to collegiate programs and we encourage all players that fit into that category to register for the tour. This could be the event that changes everything for someone.”
